A human adult or animal is one who has grown to its full potential. The human world of adult refers to legal and social concepts. In contrast to a non-adult or "minor" an legal adult is a person who has attained the age of majority, and therefore is regarded as autonomous, self-sufficient and dependable. Also known as "majors" They can also be said to be at the age of adulthood. The point at which a person can legally become an adult is 18; however, the definition of maturity can be different depending upon the nation or legal system, as well as the state of their mental health.

The age of adulthood marks the point in the human lifespan when the person is at maturation in both physical and mental growth. The term "adulthood" is generally believed to start around age 20 or 21 years. Following middle age (starting about 40 years old) then comes older age (around age 60). Young adulthood starts between ages of 18 and 30. The middle age stage begins from in the 30s to the 60s. Later adulthood is when we reach the mid-60s. At the point we are in an early age (20 to early 40s) the physical development has been completed, however the size and weight of our bodies may increase slightly. When we reach the beginning of our lives, we're physically at our peak. Muscle strength, response time, sensory ability, and cardiac function are all at their maximum.
